For the past decade and more White’s Cross GAA Club has marshalled both adult and juvenile affairs by means of the one club committee. However after considerable negotiation, it was decided that a separate committee needed to be put in place to steer under-age matters, to ensure that proper attention is given to the increasing numbers of teams participating with White’s Cross at juvenile level.
Consequently at a recent meeting officers and selectors were chosen for the 2011 season for the under-age club. Officers of the adult club presided over the election process, and the following is a list of the members chosen for office:
Chairperson: Mike O Flynn
Secretary: Sean Coughlan
Treasurer: Rupert Aitken
Communications Officer: Ciarán Allen
School Liaison Officer: Imelda O Connell
Registrars: Geraldine O Driscoll & Joan Twomey
Child Protection Officer: Elaine Ryan
General Committee: Peter Docherty, Marion Delaney, Conor Kelleher, Michelle Whooley, Ger Hayes, Teresa Quain, Richard Kelleher.
The chairperson of the adult club, Pat O Callaghan congratulated the officers, and assured them of the full support of the adult committee. In his opening address, the incoming chairperson Mike O Flynn commended the work that had been done with the under-age club in the previous number of years. He paid particular praise to Paul O Donovan who had been instrumental in revitalising the under-age structures for a number of years, before he headed to London with work. Mike expressed the wish that the committee would ensure that the club’s under-age coaches could concentrate on coaching matters, without being side-tracked with off-field matters.
The new secretary Sean Coughlan proposed that under-age training for those 10 years and younger commence back formally from the last weekend of February, with the under 15s and under 13s already back in action. A number of the newly selected coaches enrolled in an official GAA Coaching Programme being held on the third weekend of the month.
