Elsewhere the Under 6 and Under 8 boys and girls are also preparing to step into the great outdoors. Having trained each Friday night for the past two and a half months in the confines of four wals at a local sports hall, they will be keen to test their skills in the open field once more!
During these indoor football sessions they have worked diligently to develop their kicking, fist-passing, blocking, catching and picking skills, while simultaneously getting some valued exercise in. While this might all sound like hard work, the likes of Peter Twomey, Stephen Whooley, Jack O Callaghan, Orla Coffey, Aaron and Mark Wallace, Cathal O Flynn, Martha Quain and Tom Casey went home smiling each week, even if the result in Across the River, the Big Match or Cluiche Richie might have temporarily disappointed them!
The enthusiasm of these boys and girls is a joy to behold, and to see their improvement week on week is a great boost to the coaches involved. The coaching drills assigned as ‘homework’ each Friday have certainly been practiced by Olan Dill, Jordan Bransfield, Elaine Murphy, Luke Murphy, Robbie O Driscoll, Ryan O Connell and Brendan Quain and all have improved greatly in the past while.
