With a touch of Spring in the air, under-age training moves from indoors back into the great outdoors! The White’s Cross Under 11 Go-Game Leagues kicked off on Sunday March 22nd at the White’s Cross Grounds. With both boys and girls eligible, four teams were created to battle it out – the Lions, the Bears, the Tigers and the Sharks. Each team plays each other twice before the final league standing is calculated over the following weeks. Then the first team will play the fourth in one semi-final and second and third will do battle in the other semi-final. The winners will qualify for the A final while the semi-final runners up will compete in the B final. Each team will get 3 points for a win and if they can score 5 scores (goal/point = 1 score) they get a bonus point. One point is given to each side, in the event of a draw.
After the first week the Bears top the table thanks in no small part to Cormac O’ Flynns fine scores. He was ably assisted by Aaron Kent, Ciaran Quain and Emily Hall. However the Bears did not have things all their own way in Round One and fought out an exciting draw with the Tigers, for who Jack Kiely, Padraig Cloran, Corey Cambridge, Shane McElhinney and Colin McCarthy all impressed. Elsewhere the Sharks and the Lions fought it out in a keen battle with the former winning out in the end, thanks to fine displays from Sean Kelly, Cillian Hall, Ronan Quain, Ruairi Casey and Ryan McCarthy. For the Lions, Ross Murphy, Cian O Dononvan, Adam Kent, Fiachra O Connell and Tony O Keeffe all fought gamely.
