On reading the above heading one might be inclined to think that White’s Cross GAA is getting a step or two ahead of itself – afterall it was only last year we celebrated our 50th Anniversary, and here we are speaking about bicentenary celebrations! However, as most will know, the celebration we are speaking about here is that of St. Michael’s Church. Yes indeed the current Church at Upper Glanmire has proudly celebrated reaching this mile-stone in past weeks. Its doors were opened to the country and beyond in consecutive Sundays in the past month or so, with RTE Radio broadcasting Sunday Mass live from the Church. One former club member recounted hearing the Mass at their home in London! The occasion was also marked when Bishop John Buckley celebrated Mass on a recent Saturday evening also.
White’s Cross GAA compliments everyone involved in marking this occasion. It is a dangerous thing to go listing people for praise, as you are always sure to leave out someone, if you are that someone please forgive us! Well done to; the priests of the Parish Dr. Noel O Sullivan and Fr. Ted Sheehan; to each of the other priests and nuns who joined in the Masses; to the bicentenary committee; to the pupils, teachers and parents at Scoil Naomh Mícheal for the lovely singing and the project they produced on the history of the Church; to the I.C.A. who produced a lovely spread in the Community Centre after the Bishop’s Mass and to everyone else who participated.
