White’s Cross 0 – 10 Cloyne 0 – 11

The celebrations of the City Championship success over Nemo Rangers had to be shortened somewhat because of the upcoming County-Quarter Final clash, where we were pitted against Imokilly representatives, Cloyne.

This game is certainly not one that many involved in from our end will want to remember.  Having settled into the tie quite well and led after 20 minutes by four points, things looked good for the Cross.  However for some inexplicable reason the next forty minutes went horribly wrong and we trailed at the final whistle by a solitary point.  It was a most disappointing end to the 2008 championship campaign for this Junior side.

However this bunch of players should look back on the year with immense pride – they accomplished their primary target and still find themselves in the two remaining divisional competitions.  With victories over Rathpeacon, St. Michaels, Na Piarsaigh, Douglas and Nemo the Junior A Championship Cup was won for the second time in three years.  The team remains top of the League, with two games remaining, and has also progressed through the first round of the McSwiney Cup, a competition the side has won consecutively for the previous 5 years.  The year 2008 will be reflected upon as another great year in our Club’s history…
