On the 11th of September last year, the girls of White’s Cross took part in their first official ladies football game for the club having just registered with the county board. Just under a year on and we have reached another significant milestone. On Sunday 6th September the girls took part in their first official competitive football game; an East Cork League Under 10 home fixture to Rockban.
Rockban started the game strongly and put pressure on our defence from the beginning. As the first half progressed the White’s Cross defence came more into the game with some great defensive displays again from the likes Faye O’Shea and Sadie Coughlan. Midfielders Ciara O’Callaghan and Maria Hayes started to get on more ball and increased the supply to the forwards where Charlotte Roche and Alannah Kelleher were getting the better of their markers. Whites Cross were unlucky not to get the scores their play deserved with on the scoreboard with Maria Cotter coming very close on several occasions. In the second half an improved performance saw the team convert their possession into scores with midfielders Ciara O’Callaghan and Maria Hayes pushing further forward and adding their name to scoring sheet. While the win went to Rockban the girls can be very proud of their effort with displaying great skills and excellent teamwork through the game.
