2021 – AGM Season!

24 February 2021

White’s Cross GAA have held two AGMs (for 2020) in the last week. As is becoming the norm, these meetings were held virtually. St. Colmcilles were first up on Tuesday 16th of February. A decent crowd attended this meeting and the various officers here provided comprehensive reports of the on and off-field activities in the last year The outgoing officers Willie Sheehan (chairman), Sean Coughlan (secretary), Eoin Crowley (treasurer) and Conor Kelleher (communications officer) are all staying in their roles for 2021.

The second AGM held was the main or adult White’s Cross GAA AGM. 21 people attended this meeting again held on zoom. Our secretary and chairman both gave detailed summaries of the work that went on throughout the year in White’s Cross GAA. They outlined some of the challenges that have faced the club this year but also complemented the work that went on in the club. Our club grounds continue to be very well looked after. John Drummy, Martin Flynn, Seamus McCarthy and Pat O’Callaghan do a great job here. Our club grounds continue to be used widely in the community for walking and exercise during the lockdown. This is very positive to see some activity in the grounds.

The chairman thanked all the selectors and coaches of the various teams in 2020 and wished them all the best for 2021. All the same football selectors were in place for 2021 as served in 2020. In hurling there has been some change as outgoing coach Seamus Kennefick as well as selectors Martin Atkinson, Dominic Cahill, Christy O’Neill and Pat Reid are outgoing and will not be in the role in 2021. They were thanked for their huge commitment and sacrifice over the last few years. They were credited for bringing the first ever county title to White’s Cross GAA.

There were many comments on how club members pulled together to help the community at the start of the pandemic in 2021 – chief among them our SuperValu support team.

Katie Flynn (treasurer) detailed the club finances for 2020. These continue to be healthy. We are fortunate for this. However, there are significant fundraising challenges and as we have big projects to start this year, we will have to monitor our finances closely.

The four outgoing officers were relected for 2020. These are Mike O’Flynn (Chairman), Ciara Cashman (Secretary), Katie Flynn (treasurer) and Paul O’Donovan (communications officer). At the end of the meeting we held a minute’s silence for our former club president Dermot Whooley and all other friends who departed since the last AGM. They are gone but never forgotten.
