White’s Cross GAA held its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday night 20th of November in Scoil Naomh Micheál, Upper Glanmire under the chairmanship of Seán Coughlan. Twenty-one people attended with apologies from a number of others. For the second year running, our club secretary Max Philpott was joining the meeting, through Zoom, this time from Dublin where he is currently based for work.
The meeting took the standard format where the outgoing officers read their individual reports. The tone of these was positive. There are many functions within the club that are essential to the day-to-day running such pitch maintenance and facilities maintenance, facilities development, managing FAS workers, liaising with with our various sponsors, managing our income stream, paying our bills, promotion of the club through varied media sources, club lotto committee, match-ticket distribution, fixture organisation, liaising with various GAA administrative entities (Seandun board etc) and more. All of this work is done in the background, so to speak, and is essential work that must be done before we start playing actual matches; our raisond’etre. All those that were involved in this vital work were thanked for their efforts throughout the year.
In terms of actual playing, the Team management and players were thanked for their efforts. John Desmond will continue as hurling manager in 2025 along with his selectors Pat Reid, Dominic Cahill and Kevin Buckley. Michael Prout will step down as football manager next year. However, there will be continuity as selectors Murt Kelleher and Kevin Buckley (who will be involved with both adult teams) will take over the team. Paudie Curtain will also be on their team as a selector. All three have given huge commitment to White’s Cross so our football team is in good hands next year.
To the election of officers: Seán Coughlan (Chairman) and Martin Kelleher (Treasurer) were nominated again for 2025 and have agreed to continue.
Max Philpott (Secretary) has stepped down from his role but will continue as assistant secretary. As other nominees for the role were not present, this position will be filled at the next meeting.
Sean O’Donnell (Communications Officer) has vacated the role and has been replaced by Paul O’Donovan (who previously held the role in 1998 and 2018-2022 inclusive).
Tribute was paid to members and friends who passed in 2024. Tom Harte and Simon Buckley got a particular mention.
Membership fees were ratified for 2025 and the meeting was closed by chairman Seán Coughlan.
