Poc Fada 2017 Round-Up: Alana’s Butterfly Life was the chosen charity for the annual White’s Cross Poc Fada competition which took place on the 26th of December.
Top prize in the senior category was the John Hickey Memorial Cup. This was won by second time winners Kevin Buckley, Conor Buckley and Fionnán Dunne, who were also victors back in 2013. They pipped the Murnane brothers; Sean, Breandán and Eoin; by a single shot.
In the Juvenile Section Eolan Dill, Brendain Quain and Stephen Whooley were victors and this trio are already eyeing up a crack off the senior title in 12 months time!
Baby Alana was born in February 2016 and was quickly diagnosed with a rare and horrible genetic disorder, called Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). To put it simply, her body doesn’t produce collagen which means the layers of her skin don’t bind together as they should. The slightest touch or friction causes it to blister or tear as it is as fragile as a butterfly’s wings, giving rise to its more common name, Butterfly Skin.
Míle buíochas to everyone who assisted with the organisation and running of the Poc Fada. From those who acted as stewards to those who provided soup and sandwiches fair play and thanks. A special shout out also to Michelle Whooley who walked the circuit taking photographs of proceedings to capture and share some lovely moments of a very enjoyable early afternoon in White’s Cross despite the weather. — feeling festive at Whites Cross Gaa Pitch.
