The Whitechurch GAA pitches were buzzing with activity on this particular Saturday morning with 7 different clubs attending a football blitz. White’s Cross had two teams compete in the blitz, each playing 3 games. White’s Cross team green had three fine wins over Brian Dillons, Whitechurch and Tracton. In the game against Dillons the seeds for the win were sown in the first half when we opened up a commanding lead: 2-5 to 0-2 at the interval. Again against Whitechurch a great start was crucial for the win – however this was one that remained in the balance until the final whistle. The final game against Tracton proved a rather one sided affair to complete a treble of victories on the day. Well done to this team for their performance on the day and to their coach Nick Harden who worked very hard throughout. White’s Cross green team: Eddie Coughlan, Liam O’ Connor, Charlie O’ Shea, Mark O’ Keeffe, Aiden Docherty, Rian Harden, Cathal Whooley, Evan Quain and David Morley.
The white White’s Cross team fielded on the day played three concurrent matches. This team battled gamely against Douglas, St. Nicks & Bishopstown. This White’s Cross team also played very well on the day and held their own in all 3 matches against formidable ‘big’ club opponents with outstanding play from all involved. Excellent hand passing, kicking, soloing were on show from our team which translated into many scores. The players really showed their ability with the Irish weather taking its toll at times with showers and high winds coming and going but this did not dampen the spirits of the players as they battled throughout. White’s Cross white team: James Buckley, Shane Buckley, Traelach Dawson, Sean Delaney, Evan MacAuliffe, Caelon Garde, Luke Mullins, Michael Mullins, Jamie Murphy, Oisin O’ Connell, Adam O’ Connor, Bobby O Riordan.
