White’s Cross once again had the honour of providing the captain to the Seandún division’s representative team in the county senior football championship – for the second year running Eoin Murnane was chosen for this distinction. Indeed for their opening round clash, because of a clash of colours with opponents Imokilly, Seandún wore our Club’s jerseys. For the record, we are glad to report that the division had a fine win in the green and white of the Cross against our nearby neighbours from the East Cork barony!
Of course these jerseys would be very familiar to a number of the side, because along with captain Murnane, other White’s Cross players in the starting 15 included goalkeeper Billy Sheahan, wing-forward Conor Buckley and centre-forward Edwin Buckley – Murnane was positioned at centre-back. In this opening round clash under floodlights at Pairc uí Diolúnaigh the Seandún side were full value for their four point win over the East-Cork side, 0-10 to 0-6.
This win progressed Seandún to a Round 3 clash with most formidable opponents Duhallow – who had contested the county final last October. For this round, the four White’s Cross representatives were joined in the starting 15 by another of their own, with Murt Kelleher also drafted into the starting team. Kelleher who spent most of 2012 sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury has been working his way back to fitness and obviously adequately impressed the Seandún selectors in his recent performances. On the night all five acquitted themselves very well as Duhallow won out 2-11 to 0-7. However had Seandún been more clinical during their period of dominance midway through the first half of this clash in Mallow, when three gilt-edges goal opportunities and more point chances were spurned, who knows what might have resulted
